Sub Requests & Open Shifts (Managers)

Approve shift coverage changes and manage open shifts.

Sub requests

When an employee can't make a shift, they submit a sub request instead of leaving a gap. The flow:

  1. The employee opens their shift and clicks Request Sub.
  2. Eligible teammates see the request under Open Sub Requests and can accept it.
  3. You approve or deny from the Open Sub Requests page (Scheduling section), based on position fit and hours.
  4. On approval, the shift reassigns automatically and both employees are notified.

The Sub-Requests page lists every request for your team with its status, so nothing falls through the cracks.

Open shifts

Open shifts are published, unassigned shifts that staff can claim:

  • Create a shift without an assignee and publish it — it appears on the Open Shifts page for staff whose position matches.
  • Shifts can allow multiple spots; staff see how many spots are left, and can join a waitlist when full.

Open shifts are a low-effort way to fill gaps: publish the need and let your team self-select, instead of calling around.

Volunteer shifts

Organizations that work with volunteers can share open volunteer shifts by link. People who aren't team members yet can create an account, accept a team invitation, and claim the shift. Configure volunteer options under Settings → Volunteers.
